Diana Kraft books and cards for the right brain kids. Those were the first books my older child was able to read.

Social studies:
For history, we used the Usborne Encyclopedia to map a list of topics and outline the timeline. Then added field trips, museums, and themed parties supplementing with books, movies, and videos.
We've spent many long slow days in the museums when you can read all the notes, push all the buttons, and climb everything you are allowed to climb.
For geography, we developed topics as we encounter them in our everyday life. Plus, we keep a map on our dining table and look for the places mentioned in the books or movies we watch, learning about the countries our friends are from. I have a degree in international relations, so I teach on the go.
